My name is Dale. I am introducing you to my 55-year old, second generation business for sale.
I have been in the business myself for 35-plus years. This is a complete home store. We sell everythng for the home except the boards. We sell furniture, we sell televisions, appliances, vacuum cleaners, blinds and floor coverings.
The business was started by my father in the 50s as a partnership, appliances only. It has grown to where it is today.
It is in a small, rural Oregon community with an extremely good lifestyle. The business enjoys a very good reputation in the community. It is very well-established. I've been selling to grandmothers and fathers and uncles and their children for generations. It has been the place to come. There is very little other competition in the area.
It has got the prime location in town. It is at the only stoplight for 120 miles, in four directions.
It has survived the good times of the 70s, and has remained pretty steady even through '08 and the downturn in the economy we have today. We're, again, a full-line store, we offer financing in-house, carry our own contracts in-house. We do installation. We back everything we sell with our own service, and delivery, and install.
We're serving an area of about 80-100 mile circle around the area. It is located in the central community of that area, the largest trading town in the area. So people are coming from a long ways to patronize the store.
I'm selling the business to move on to other interests. The business has treated me and my family very, very well.
It is a lifestyle type of business, and this is one of the reasons I'm doing the video. If you've clicked on the web and gotten this far it is an opportunity for a great lifestyle and above-average living in the area where it is located. It is not going to be a get-rich quick, make a million dollars overnight type of business. It is something that is run by four people, and everybody makes a decent living out of it.
There's a lot of opportunity to increase, in many areas, with better marketing, things like that.
I have many of the very best lines of merchandise tied up for the area. Such as Maytag, Whirlpool, GE, Speed Queen, Crosley, Hoover Appliances. BlazeKing Woodburning Stoves. MetalBestos Chimneys. Levelor and Kirsh blinds. Armstrong, Mohawk, Florida Tile, Daltile, Tarkett, Pergo, Shawmark floor coverings. Flexsteel, Best, Ashley, Madison, Coaster, Simmons, Sealy, Lamps & Assoc. furniture.
One of the advantages of being in an area like this with virtually nobody else around competition-wise: When I go to the markets, and I want a line, I have no trouble getting it because there's not another dealer in the area. The upside for that is huge. Somebody that is good with the web and wants to spend some time selling on the web, you'd be able to lock up all the exclusive lines you'd ever want and could sell.
Due to the fact the community has been so loyal to the business, I'm trying to sell the business as a going concern. So that the community can be served and have a place to buy appliances and furniture in the future, still.
The business has a pretty good mix of what it does sell. It's roughly a third third third between appliances, furniture, and the woodstoves and floor coverings. There's a good balance which helps to average out the ups and downs in the market, and the trends, and what people do buy.
The business will provide an excellent opportunity for someone to get out of the rat race, get back to something much more manageable, possibly bring a son-in-law, or daughter, or sibling into the business, and get established, and pass it on to them as well.
Again all the franchise lines are in place. It's pretty much a turn-key opportunity.
I'm willing to take a lease option on the real estate portion of the business. The inventory would have to be purchased. I'm asking for basically the value of the inventory and fixtures, and not asking a lot for the 50 years in business.
There are two off-site warehouses available as well, about a block away. They are pretty integral to the business as far as the backup stock goes. One is the where the floor covering is stored.
There is lots of business available in floor coverings that I have not really pushed hard. We used to do kitchen cabinets and full installs.
That's one of the keys to the business. You can sell to someone with a new home, not only the kitchen appliances, but you can do the floors, and blinds, and fill up the bedroom with mattresses and the living room with furniture. I've had good opportunities to do package deals. The margins may not be as high, but the total dollars are good, so you can make some money there. And you can establish a loyal customer.
There's many many areas I feel like could be expanded, if a person had the talents and time. We do a lot of outside work, with the installation of the woodstoves, floor coverings, and the appliance installations.
It's kept four people going. So you're able to keep a pretty close eye on things. You're not having to manage a lot of crew.
I'm the owner, manager, salesman, I do some delivery too. There are two people doing the majority of installations that are taking the most time. So you've got a journeyman installer and helper, and then there's a secretary and salesperson on the floor.
It's an excellent opportunity for a husband and wife team to work in the same place, keep in touch with each other, and have a five-minute drive home.
The trucks and tools, everything you need are in place.
If you have any questions, my email is shown at the end of the video. But please contact my broker first.
